Gingerbread, a delicacy from afar

Gingerbread is a sweet treat steeped in history and travel. Its origins date back to ancient China, where a honey bread flavored with spices was consumed as early as the 10th century. Caravans and major trade routes then brought this recipe to Europe.

In the Middle Ages, European monks perfected the recipe and adapted it with local products. It was in Dijon, Reims and Strasbourg that gingerbread became a true specialty, notably thanks to the addition of rye flour and precious spices such as cinnamon, ginger or anise.

Traditionally enjoyed during the Christmas holidays, gingerbread is today a symbol of generosity and conviviality , often decorated and shared with family. Its soft texture and warm aromas instantly transport us back to the magic of winter.

Mulled wine, a tradition that spans centuries

Mulled wine is an age-old drink that has warmed hearts since ancient times. Even in Roman times, wine was already flavored with spices and honey to create what was called “Conditum Paradoxum” , a sweet and spicy drink served at banquets.

Over the centuries, the recipe traveled across Europe, adapting to local traditions and available spices. It became popular in winter during the Middle Ages, particularly thanks to Christmas markets, which still contribute to its renown today.

In each region, there are variations: red or white wine, cinnamon, cloves, star anise, orange zest… Each mulled wine tells a story and reflects the terroir of the person who prepares it.

More than just a drink, mulled wine has become a symbol of conviviality and sharing , enjoyed with family or friends to warm up during cold winter days.
